Who can take part in the ‘European Small and Mid-Cap Awards’ Competition?
- Listed Companies:
- With a market capitalisation of at most €1 billion at the date of Initial Public Offering (IPO);
- That were publicly listed on a Regulated Market or MTF between the dates 01.01.2019 and 31.12.2020 only;
- From within the EU 27 Member States, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, and official candidates for EU membership.
Why nominate a Small and Mid-Cap company?
- To promote the value of smaller listed companies;
- To provide increased visibility to small and mid-cap companies;
- To demonstrate the value of equity financing to the real economy.

International Star
Criteria:
- Impressive results in terms of international sales, profit and market share growth;
- Expanded its presence in either existing or new markets;
- Well-managed and demonstrate a sound strategy for taking advantage of opportunities outside its own country.
Rising Star
Criteria:
- Exceptional performer in the sub-group of SMEs with a market capitalisation of up to €50 million;
- Responsible corporate citizen;
- An emerging business and one that clearly has further growth potential;
- Well managed and have made good use of the proceeds of floatation;
- Since going public, its share price should have risen to a respectable but not excessive premium.
Star of Innovation
Criteria:
- A company that places innovation at the centre of its strategy for business development (by introducing innovative technology to the market, or using innovative techniques in its day-to-day operations as well as an innovative financing strategy);
- Well managed and successful in its sector;
- Particular attention will be made to the future potential that the innovation offers.

Criteria:
- An exceptional performer in its sector and be a responsible corporate citizen;
- Clear growth potential, be well managed and have made good use of the proceeds of floatation;
- Since going public, its share price should have risen to a respectable but not excessive premium.
Special Mention
Criteria:
- Recognises, for example, an initiative, an individual or a company which has had a significant impact on small and mid-cap issuers accessing capital markets.
- Nominations could derive from those intermediaries that support companies along their journey i.e. a SME Listing Partner, an Adviser etc.
- Alternatively, nominations could be considered for example for specific policy initiatives/representatives; a dedicated initiative in support of SMEs; or a stand out report based in this field. The Special Mention should not include initiatives run by exchanges.
- This award aims at recognising the nominee for its outstanding support/recognition or for its work in highlighting the main issues and/or proposals small and mid-cap companies accessing public financing face.
